Spotty stems & Flowery leaves

Poor old Auntie has been a bit neglected lately. Luckily Nancy in the USA has started doing this quilt as a BOM. Her recent posts have inspired me to get my AG out and finish off the stems and leaves for the centre top right corner.

Auntie Green's Garden

The stems in this corner are spotty and the leaves are flowery.

Nancy is setting a cracking pace and has already completed her centre basket of flowers and the surrounding leaf wreath. There are so many gorgeous WIPs, new projects and finishes in blogland I'm beginning to feel as though I must be a slow sewer. Even though I sew virtually every day I still take months and years to finish anything. Maybe I should start a Slow Sewing Movement, just like the Slow Food Movement - what's your pace like?

  1. Don't worry, I am with you on the slow sewing. I have seen some lovely projects in blog land, but I won't let myself start them until my Nearly Insane is done. It could be another 6 months!

  3. I love Auntie Green and yours is looking great. No worries about being slow, it isn't a race. I am one of those ones who seems to be pretty speedy but I have lots of time on my hands to spend sewing. Plus my hand stitching got much quicker once zi started using a thimble for all my sewing, not just for quilting.

  4. I am a slow stitcher. If I even try to speed up, things go wrong. Unfortunately, there isn't enough time in my day to work on all the projects I'd like to make. I have the Auntie Green pattern, not the BOM, and after I'm caught up on LE, make a baby quilt and finish two other quilts, I plan to start Auntie Green. My ambitious plans are to do all of the mentioned projects in February. Ha.

  6. Carole, You are certainly not slow. Just look at all the beautiful projects you are working on and the ones you have finished. Besides it’s not a race when you are doing something you enjoy.

  7. I'm with you - I, too, have seen this gorgeous quilt, but I've got years of sewing ahead of me just to complete the wonderful quilts already on my list ;o)
PS Love, love, love your blog!!

  8. I think the slow sewing movement has taken hold of me! I have made the resolve this year to achieve finishes. Less time on the computer, less time pondering on fabric choice, and more time spent preparing blocks, setting weekly goals and keeping a tidy, organised sewing room is hopefully going to help me. Since following your blog I have marvelled at what you achieve, definitely not slow sewing at all.

  9. I agree with you although do you think it could be that we have too many projects on the go and or some are very large whatever the case we are having fun :-)

  10. It always seems to me that you make great progress Carole - and your applique is so well executed. Good things take a little extra time! It's loving the process that counts isn't it, not how quickly we finish?
Love the spotty fabric in this one.

  11. I agree with Hilda. Hand sewn projects do take longer and they can't be compared with quicker, machined projects. They both have a place. I love to have a long term project on the go, they bring so much satisfaction through the process and at the end (but the are times in the middle when you wonder!).

  12. I am a slow sewer too. Mostly I sew by hand, plus I have lots of projects going at once, so it takes me ages to get anything finished!

Its all about the journey and the enjoyment along the way.

Your Auntie Green is looking fabulous!

  14. Hi Carole. My name is Carolyn and I am new to your blog. I enjoy reading about your quilting life and your work is beautiful. I am very much a slow sewer. With teenage children and working full time I only get to squeeze small bits of sewing in here and there. I find hand sewing is the perfect for this. I keep telling myself it is about the journey!
