There seems to be a discrepancy in the Dearest Boy pattern between the written instructions and the accompanying image. The instructions say to cut the diagonal strips at 2" and the photo has the ruler lined up on the fabric at 1 & 3/4".
Has any one else had problems with this block??
Anyway, in the meantime here is a pic of some of my blocks on the design wall.
And the obligatory cow pic... Dearest Lavender with her mini-me Hettie.
Until next time

ReplyDeleteHI Carole, I tried to make the block as the pattern states, and it was awful. I am pretty much drafting all my own blocks now....I made totally different ones this week. The color you chose was so pretty, though!
ReplyDeleteThose finished blocks on the wall look great. I like the softer colours you are using.
ReplyDeleteWell that is frustrating! I saw this morning that Cathy has substituted a different pattern as well. I love her trees! Your blocks look wonderful on the design wall. You'll find a tree block that works for you or add an extra cow - wink!
ReplyDeleteActually, I just noticed that ALL of you made a different tree block. Good job everyone!
ReplyDeleteWe all had a problem with this block. I didn't even try to make it. I found a pinetree block I liked and used it. All your blocks together look really good. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI tried making the diamond tree block and felt the same as you. Things did not look right and were not laying flat as I wanted. A change was certainly in order.
ReplyDeleteOh no, how disappointing and frustrating. I hope the author can help, perhaps there is a spot on their website for corrections?
ReplyDeleteWhy can't the Designer's test their own work? Looks like the cut should have been at 1 and 3/4" I do not blame quilters for substituting with other blocks! I am a testament to some of the big name Designers who sell books with mistakes, which costs us, the consumer to waste money. Take care and hang in there!
ReplyDeleteTook a closer look at the pattern! Those are quadrants from a Lone Star Block - all probably cut on a 45 degree and one must really have the right ruler and tools to make them. Pretty, but technically a nightmare! Smart move!
ReplyDeleteI guess I never took a good look at the block before--it does look pretty challenging! All of you will have your own version of the quilt and that just makes it more fun to see them!
ReplyDeleteI think your color way for this quilt is my favorite of all that I've seen! So very sweet. Very disappointing about the tree block. It should have been a fantastic addition to the quilt!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look terrific together with the soft colors. Lavender is a mama? Wow!
