I've made good progress with my Words to Live By and I've been deciding what to do for the final border/s. My initial choice of this FG border fabric just doesn't seem to relate any more.
I think the black fabric is too dark but I'll probably use it for the binding.
I think I will go with a dogtooth border - I've just used some leftovers from my CCCQ to get the idea, I will use cream/off-white shirtings from the quilt instead of the white.
I've finished all of the red & white pieced blocks for Reading the Fine Print and a few more applique blocks - only one more to go!
I've also been playing with possible layouts and borders for this quilt.
Linking up to Meredithe's 17ufosin2017 October post (when it becomes available), hard to believe that we're nearly at the end of this challenge.
Cheers
Carole
I once thought about making a Giant Dahlia. That was about 53 quilts ago. Your's is lovely. I still have 2 more posts prepared for the 17 ufos for 2017. Wonder what the challenge will be for 2018?
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've been making lots of decisions. Sometimes that's the most challenging part. Love to see what you've working on.
ReplyDeleteI quite like the red triangles in place of your original toile. It has a similar outline which I liked although I can see why you didn't want to proceed with the toile. Enjoy your class. Congratulations on 17 finishes.
ReplyDeleteI have never done a Dahlia design. Your fabrics look oh so pretty in your Dahlia. I look forward to seeing how you fit the round peg into a square hole or vice versa.
ReplyDeleteOh the black offsets it! It pulls the Medallion out!!! But that is what I would do. Such a lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteI love how you have put together Words to Live By--so creative and striking! I'm really looking forward to seeing the finish!
ReplyDeleteOoh, so many fabulous projects! I adore your Words to Live By, and your applique is just delightful as always. Your dahlia intrigues me, too. That's one I've always wanted to make but haven't seen a pattern or instructions for it anywhere. Did you use a pattern, commercial templates, or figure out how to draft it on your own?
ReplyDeleteI want to start by saying a big THANK YOU! From your blog I "met" & MET Di Ford Hall. I'll explain: several years back I followed a link on Ester Aliu"s Blog and found your Blog. I read it quite often. You did the Morrell Quilt and had a picture with Di Ford. I ordered Di's quilt pattern. Then when her book Primarily Quilts came out I bought it. Two years ago I was online shopping and ran across a Retreat that quilt shop had. To my surprise Di Ford was scheduled as a teacher-----My friend and I signed up for the Retreat/classes. We went last week and I must say Di was a fantastic teacher/person. So again THANK YOU! Your quilting/Blog has helped at least 2 quilters in the states to be introduced to the wonderful quilters from Australia. I would also like to include you as you "get 'er done" I so enjoy the quilts you share. ginabeth
ReplyDeleteP.S. I also met Brenda Papadakis at the same Retreat, which was given by Gay Boomers (It Takes Two).
ReplyDeleteI have had the Michelle's dahlia pattern bookmarked for a long time seeing your lovely version is very inspiring perhaps finally buy the pattern and have a go. Love your quilts and name change.
