Australian Quilt Convention 2017

Last April I went along to the Australasian Quilt Convention held at Melbourne's Exhibition Centre.

I'll just let the pictures do the talking so grab a cuppa and enjoy...

Margaret Sampson George was one of the featured quilter's with her Take an Element exhibit.

Luke Haynes from the USA was also featured.

As you can see there was lots of inspiration but this next quilt really made the trip into town worth while for me - the Year 60 Quilt by Norma Slabbert from New Zealand. To chronicle her 60th year she made a quilt block of her daily life, every day for one whole year "without fail", simply amazing! Her beautiful 11 metre quilt was so inspirational.

So when I've polished off a few more UFOs towards the end of the year, Norma has inspired me to create my own Year 60 Quilt. After coming back down to earth about it I don't think I could make a block every day, instead I'll try for 60 blocks across the year, maybe one every 6 days or five per month. I'm thinking batiks and Japanese taupes in the greens, blues, greys and browns of nature.

I'll be back before you know it with an update on my
17 ufos in 2017.

  7. Beautiful eye candy! I like the awards that read "Best of the Best". Never have seen it worded that way for award winning quilts.
