CCCQ Block #9

I have finished Block #9 - 'Eliza Whiteside'. I enjoyed doing this papercut style applique. The fabric I used is 'Design 2875 by Paula Barnes of Bonnie Blue Quilts' a Marcus fabric. More and more I'm having a touch of yellow in this quilt. A long time ago  a read a quote from quilter who said something along the lines that she liked all of her quilts to have some yellow, like a 'touch of sunshine'. Corny as it sounds this idea lodged in my brain and I like to do it when I can.

CCCQ Block #9
My sister-in-law always likes to see the back of my work so here's a peek.

Slowly (as is everything Morrell) I am putting my Morrell top together. Removing the tear away stabiliser from the broderie perse blocks is fiddly and takes awhile. Note to self - next time, do this as you go along or use a wash away stabiliser!

As I'm squaring up I have had to do some minor surgery on some blocks as I've missed bits on the broderie perse or I wasn't too accurate in fitting some applique pieces to fit the 10" block etc. (please note touch of sunshine in the star).

All points now fit within the boundaries.

I've now finished piecing together 3 out of 8 rows.

Autumn has truly arrived in Melbourne, my little Japanese maple really has the 'wow factor' this year.

Off to prepare the next CCCQ block.....what! I've run out of background fabric and it's Sunday. Oh no - this means I'm consigned to tearing off stabiliser on the buses all next week - sigh :(

  2. Your Morrell looks stunning on the table there. It's a nuisance doing little 'repairs' - bit like housekeeping ! Another lovely CCCQ block and great fabric choice.

  3. It's a beautiful Block, and the back is so neat. You are making great progress on this one. I love Autumn too, so many beautiful shades of red and gold.

  7. I really like the fresh new look of your blog header! Your latest CCCQ block is great!! I lave always liked that Morrell quilt! What great progress you are making! It is fun to see your Japanese Maple changing color for the season. I also have a (miniature crimson) Japanese Maple outside my window (about 1 & 1/4 meter tall) and it just budded out with it's intense deep maroon-cranberry foliage this week of the opposite end of the seasonal spectrum! It makes me happy to see the color and lacy fullness on the tree (bush size) after so long looking at the gray, bare branches.
Have a great week and I hope that all the paper tearing-off makes your travels go quickly!

  9. Wow - I'm so impressed with your attention to detail, fixing the points like that. :) And I can just imagine the finickiness of pulling the stabilizer out from hand stitching (as I spent 2 hours last night pulling off newsprint paper from machine appliqued blocks)!

  10. Your Morrell quilt is just lovely. I have been told if you moisten the seams a little when removing the paper it will make it come off easier. I haven't tried it because I haven't had to remove any paper in a while but you might give it a try.
Isn't it funny how the first thing everyone does is turn your appliqué block over to check out the back. Your stitches on Elizas block look great.
