I've got into a Brenda Papadakis workshop at Quilts in the Barn - Yay me!
I started collecting blue Liberty fabrics last year with the idea of one day making a Dear Jane quilt.
I was inspired by this quilt made by Julianne who has kindly let me post the following pics from her blog -
I haven't seen this quilt in real life but I don't think this photo does it justice. It was pictures of the individual blocks like these below that really caught my attention.
I'm sure you can see why I was inspired!
I never would have dreamed of having the opportunity to take a class with the famous Brenda. Thanks to Linda the 'one day' Dear Jane quilt will now be happening :)
Finishing this secret sewing block was a great opportunity to practise sewing with Liberty fabrics. They are truly something else! Beautiful to needle turn and they don't fray so you can afford to have a small seam allowance to turn under. I was glad that I already use fine no. 11 straw needles and fine Superior thread.
Do you have an exciting sewing experience to look forward to?
Congratulations, the workshop sounds fantastic. I will look forward to your progress on your dear Jane journey.
ReplyDeleteI just had a fun quilting experience this week when I took a workshop with Victoria Findlay-Wolfe. Had a lot of fun making fabric with my scraps and, of course, have started a new project!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing the DJ quilt you'll be making! I think it will be gorgeous in those blue Liberty fabrics.
You have taken on a challenge with Dear Jane, looking forward to seeing the progress.
ReplyDeleteI have sen trying to stay far away from Dear Jane. I know you will enjoy the workshop.
ReplyDeleteYour secret sewing block is just beautiful.
You will have a wonderful time with Dear Brenda - enjoy your Dear Jane journey
ReplyDeleteHow fun to take a class from Brenda! I plan to start Dear Jane someday -- I agree--those blocks are truly inspirational!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting for you. I will live my DJ vicariously through you!
ReplyDeleteOh, congratulations, you are indeed very lucky! As regards Dear Jane quilts, I think I should have started mine when I was younger the way it goes...
ReplyDeleteI made my Dear Jane almost fifteen years ago and while there are many blocks it was fun and a great learning experience. I hope you enjoy making yours as much as I enjoyed making mine!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried Liberty fabrics but your post makes me eager to give them a go!
Love your Liberty fabrics! I can't wait to see your DJ, maybe it's time I got mine out of hibernation :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the club . . . almost . . . I am planning to start my Dear Jane 2 in a few weeks. I do like the fussy cutting on some of those blocks. Makes me want to consider making several more.
ReplyDeleteMy comment just vanished - been happening a lot lately...
ReplyDeleteSo exciting that you are starting a Dear Jane - and it will be wonderful in the Liberty! Thanks for showing those little Liberty blocks - beautiful inspiration. It is such fine fabric for fiddly work.
How exciting you got in to Breda's workshop. I got her book, we did an exchanged with her book and my Liberty fabric years ago now. Using blue Liberty would be perfect. What day are you there?
