Inspiration

I've had lots of sewing inspiration in the last couple of weeks, meeting Sharon at QITB and having another session with Irene Blanck at Giborne's Patch n Quilt to sew more of Auntie Green's Garden.

Meeting with Sharon really inspired me to get out my Chester County Criswell Quilt which has been sadly languishing for awhile. It was a bit tricky to prepare Block #13 because of the size - I could only trace out half of the pattern because of the width of the freezer paper. I'm now using frixion pens which iron off so I pondered how I could trace one half and then do the second half without removing all the marks. I then had the brilliant idea of using my Clover mini iron to iron the paper near the midway mark so it wouldn't remove the already marked pattern on the lower half - this worked!

Made quite a bit of progress already.

The star in the middle was too difficult to sew on the bus so this part had to wait until I was at home.
This block looked daunting but now that I've started I'm loving it, especially using Mary Koval's red fabric.

Then there was more inspiration in Irene's class where I saw a new Auntie Green that is being made by Jill...

Isn't it just gorgeous!

This where I'm up to with my Aunty Green...

I now trying to decide which fabric to use on the basket handles...

I love the stripey zig zags but it just 'disappears' (see above pic).
I think I'll go for the darker fabric I've pinned on the left - what do you think?

More inspiration coming up tomorrow when I go to the first Appliqué Day for the new  Appliqué Guild Australia - might see you there?

I hope you can find some sewing inspiration too.
Cheers
Carole

  3. Wow on the Chester County Criswell block! Don't know that I'll ever attempt that one. Your Auntie Green continues to tempt me and now I've found I can get the pattern here in the States!

  4. I have the Criswell block all traced and cut out but have not had time to stitch on it. Certainly not the easiest to prep. Wonder how much stitching time it is going to take.

  5. Auntie Green is so beautiful! I agree you should use a darker fabric for the handles--even the cheddar would be nice! Great job!

  6. The CCCQ block is beautiful Carole - and a lovely fabric choice. I'm with you on the darker handles for the Auntie Green - would frame it better from a distance I think. Good to see you have been so inspired!
