Comfort Sewing

We've all heard of Comfort Eating, well lately I've being doing a lot of Comfort Sewing. Before Christmas I stumbled down some steps and what I thought was a sprained ankle has turned out to be a fractured foot. So now I'm wearing a 'moon boot' and we've had to postpone our trip to Japan. This has meant lots of hand sewing.

I've finished another blue AWS block.

And a couple more in progress...

I've even returned to the very much neglected CCCQ. Sharon has relaunched this quilt to encourage both newbies and recalcitrant oldies like me. Some of the blocks I didn't really fancy so I've been looking for alternatives and luckily Wendy from Legend and Lace has started a new free BOM Red and Green Again. I think this first block fits in perfectly.

Red and Green Again Block #1
I quickly prepared Block #25 this morning to take on the bus. I'm using the back basting technique on this block.

You can see here where I'm cheating a bit by widening out some of those narrow inner curves.

ummed and ahhed over whether to introduce some green into this quilt and I've decided to take the plunge.

I've also completed another medallion for my Value Proposition Quilt. I was saving the fabrics I won from Karen Styles for 'something special' and then decided life's too short just use 'em! I'm glad I did.

Value Proposition Quilt Block #14
I've been sewing another block from Sonia's Cheltenham test pattern.

The first block is nearly finished for the Baltimore Bunnies being made by the G'nT Sisters. It almost looks as though that bunny is wearing a 'moon boot' in sympathy ;)

I'm really disappointed that I will miss the Tokyo Quilt a Festival but I'm trying to keep positive. On the plus side I'm grateful for the technological advances of the boot so that I don't have to wear a plaster cast or use crutches; I have time to do a Japanese refresher course; and I might get to see some cherry blossoms.

  1. A sorry tale, but at least you have had plenty to keep your hands busy. Get that Japanese phrase book out!

  4. Bad news about your foot, but I agree with Sharon, at least it wasn't your hand! Your blocks are all so beautiful.

  6. Sorry to hear about your foot but it is a good excuse to sit and stitch.
You have such a wonderful collection of blue fabrics in your AWS quilt. All of your projects are very inspiring.

  8. Good and Bad to have to do a "recoup"! But your blocks are lovely - especially the EPP Back basting is so much easier for blocks that are easy and not with difficult curves, etc. I am still a traditional needle turn appliquer - purist! Not too many left around in South Texas. Most use glue and starch!

  9. Hope your foot is on the mend really quickly and what a shame to postpone your trip. But your sewing is as wonderful as ever! Love the Cheltenham - super colours! So glad you are doing Wendy's blocks - I've been collecting them and may yet join you but too much going at present. Your foray into back basting looks great - and I like the way you've 'modified' the curves. Comfort sewing suits you ;)

  10. I'm so sorry to hear that you're mending your foot and missing your trip, but I'm sure delighted with the photos you have posted! Out of all the blogs that I view on a regular basis, yours is truly one of the best. Speedy recovery to you.💐

  11. Your blocks are just gorgeous...every single one of them. The one in the first photo is the block that I found all prepped and ready to sew. I hope you heal quickly, but until you do you have plenty of nice things to keep you occupied. Take care.

  12. Oh I do hope you get back on your feet quickly and everything heals well. Love seeing your gorgeous stitching and thanks for the tip to widen out some of those narrow little applique curves. Never thought to do that but from now on, I'll be thinking it's actually an option.:)

  14. It was a delight to see all you've done while you convalesce. I'm at two and a half months of doing the same, but for a fractured hip. Hope your healing continues.
